How it works?

A pool heat pump warms your pool by capturing heat from the surrounding air, even on cooler days. It acts like a clever “heat magnet”: a cold refrigerant absorbs this air’s heat, then gets compressed to become very hot. This heat is transferred to your pool water, raising its temperature, while the cooled refrigerant cycles back to the evaporator to grab more heat. This process is highly efficient, producing 5 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity used.

How do i choose the right size for my pool?

Choosing the right size of pool heat pump for your pool is super important before you buy one. If the pool heat pump is too small, your pool won’t get warm enough, even if it runs all the time as hard as it can. But if the pool heat pump is too big, it will heat up your pool super fast, but you’ll spend more money to buy it in the first place. So, to get a good pool heat pump that works well without costing too much, we need to do some math.

To figure out the perfect size, we’d normally have to think about things like how much water is in your pool, how warm you want it to be, how warm or cold the air outside is, how quickly you want to heat the pool, and even how efficient the pool heat pump is (we call this its “COP”). All of that can get pretty complicated and technical. So, based on all the years we’ve been doing this, we’ve made a simpler guide to help you pick the right size.

Pool Heat Pump Sizing Guide by pool size

• 22.71 m³ (6,000 gallons) or less: Approximately 11.7 kW (40,000 BTU or higher)
• 37.85 m³ (10,000 gallons) or less: Approximately 17.6 kW (60,000 BTU or higher)
• 56.78 m³ (15,000 gallons) or less: Approximately 26.4 kW (90,000 BTU or higher)
• 75.7 m³  (20,000 gallons) or less: Approximately 35.2 kW (120,000 BTU or higher)
• 94.6 m³ (25,000 gallons) or more: Approximately 41 kW (140,000 BTU)

Important Notes:

In cold or windy regions, you may need to increase the capacity by 20-50%.

It’s always best to use a pool cover. This significantly reduces heat loss, allowing you to use a smaller, more efficient unit.
